Community
Glen Arbour is a residential community located in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia. It is a suburb of Halifax, the Province's capital and the largest city in eastern Canada.
 
Annapolis Group Inc., the developer of Glen Arbour, began lot sales in 1998. Today, new streetscapes continue to emerge, with the number of homes in Glen Arbour now approaching 300.
 
Schools, shopping, dining, professional services, churches, childcare, sports and recreation facilities are all nearby.
 
 
Hammonds Plains
Hammonds Plains is a thriving and diverse area on the outskirts of Halifax. It is located on Route 213 between Nova Scotia highways 102 and 103.
 
The region has a rich history, with community origins dating back to 1759. 
 
Today, Hammonds Plains has a rapidly expanding business base and a growing population spread among ten neighbouring subdivisions - including Glen Arbour - each with its own distinct character.
Homeowners

Glen Arbour is naturally  attractive to families with an interest in golf. 

But, surprisingly, a substantial  proportion of residents are not active golfers but those drawn to Glen Arbour for other reasons – particularly its natural setting, quality of life and friendliness.

And because of nearby day care facilities, recreation and schools, the community has also attracted a great many families with children.

Schools

Public schools are nearby, all served by school buses with stops in Glen Arbour:

  • Hammonds Plains Consolidated Elementary — minutes away
  • Madeline Symonds Middle School — five minutes
  • Charles P. Allen High School — about a ten minute drive

A number of private and Francophone options are available.

A privately-owned childcare centre, with programs for toddlers and preschoolers, is located on Glen Arbour Way near the Hammonds Plains Road entrance.

Stores and Services
A 30,000 sq. ft. Commercial Centre is located at the Glen Arbour entrance on Hammonds Plains Road. Restaurants, service stations, a medical clinic, pharmacy and other shops are located nearby.
 
A public library, restaurants, large supermarkets, building supply centre, garden centres, hardware stores, fitness centre, community pool, rink,  gymnasium and other retail and services are a short drive west in Tantallon.
 
Bedford, with its interesting mix of stores and services, is 10 km east on the Hammonds Plains Road.  And downtown Halifax is about a half-hour's drive south — somewhat longer during rush hour.
 
The Bayer's Lake Power Centre is a major complex of big box stores, restaurants and services, and a popular destination just off Hwy 102 into Halifax.
Transportation
A Metro Transit "Park and Ride" express bus service to Halifax is less than ten minutes away in Tantallon.
 
Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) is about 30 minutes north on Highway 102.
Homeowners Association
The Glen Arbour Homeowners’ Association (GAHA) works in a number of ways to enhance residents' living experience.
 
GAHA is an active volunteer organization with an elected Board of Directors and a number of working committees.
